Rivermark: Building a Sustainable Community

Rivermark: Building a Sustainable Community

Hesperia’s first master planned community, Rivermark, establishes a new era of neighbourhood along the Swan River, Western Australia.

Its location in Viveash has a diverse Aboriginal, colonial, and local heritage and has most recently housed the iconic Midland Brick brickworks. The masterplanned community continues Hesperia’s tradition of revitalising underutilised spaces to release their potential, with Rivermark starting the next chapter for this unique parcel of land.

Hesperia Director, Judd Dyer, said Rivermark’s vision is for a thriving natural environment that the whole community can enjoy. We are integrating a range of sustainability initiatives into the very fabric of this residential development.

“Rivermark provides people with the opportunity to build a lifestyle with the future in mind.  Building communities on principles of sustainability is becoming increasingly important and we are proud of the external recognition Rivermark is already receiving,” he said.

Rivermark was recently certified as a six leaf development under EnviroDevelopment and endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Development by the Water Corporation for water efficiency and natural storm water management.

Hesperia will be encouraging greater use of rooftop solar energy, with a subsidised and affordable battery storage system available to each home. This initiative will minimise the use of non-renewable energy from the grid and reduce carbon emissions on a standard four-bedroom, two-bathroom family home by four to five tonnes per year.

Hesperia has endeavoured to address the carbon emissions involved at every stage of delivery, from the construction of roads to landscaping. These reductions are made possible through the appropriate use of recycled materials and low carbon concrete, as well as a net increase in vegetation. Fifty percent of the carbon offsetting for Rivermark is from re-vegetation of degraded farmland in the Western Australian Wheatbelt and 50 percent from renewable energy projects in developing countries.

In addition to strong sustainability principles, Rivermark will be the epitome of Perth’s active outdoor lifestyle. Offering one of the best spots on the Swan, Rivermark’s foreshore will be a location for everyone to enjoy. Surrounded by large river gums and native flora, it will be the go-to destination for cycling and riverside walks, kayaking, fishing, and water sports.

Not only celebrating the original ecology of the site, Rivermark aims to restore it too. Through meticulous planning and a considered approach to landscape design and rehabilitation, native flora and fauna is celebrated and nurtured, reinforcing a uniquely Western Australian character and identity. Rivermark provides the unique combination of peaceful tranquillity, with convenient access to established local amenity including eateries, excellent schools, and public transport links.

Hesperia is committed to creating places of enduring value that leave a legacy for generations to come. Rivermark showcases this commitment to create a sustainable future for Western Australia.
