Humes Ipswich Precast Manufacturing Facility
DEVELOPER: Holcim Australia Pty Ltd
CERTIFICATION: Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water, Community
Holcim Australia’s new $75m state-of-the-art precast concrete manufacturing facility, “Humes Ipswich”, was officially opened on the 3rd of March 2014. The flagship production facility is constructed in Swanbank Enterprise Park, strategically located 27km (radial) south-west of the Brisbane CBD. Unlike any other industrial estate in Queensland, Swanbank Enterprise Park comprises almost 500 hectares of developable industrial land within a 2,200 hectares master planned business, industry and open green space precinct. The industrial development provides opportunity for a range of industries and industry groups that require high energy inputs, expansive buffered sites and supporting infrastructure within close proximity to a major capital city and interstate transport network.
The site was built with high respect and consideration to the existing surrounding environment, complimenting existing natural landforms and environmental properties. The plant focuses the energy from three prior existing sites to provide a more efficient service that aims to be substantially more environmentally aware. Activities on the site consist of concrete batching for the on-site manufacture of concrete products including reinforced concrete pipes and other small and large pre-cast concrete products in enclosed/semi-enclosed buildings.
Humes Ipswich Precast Concrete Manufacturing Facility is the first Industrial development to be certified by EnviroDevelopment through the National Technical Standards Version 2. The world-class development sets a precedent to those in its industry, certifying for the full six leaves of EnviroDevelopment; Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water and Community.
