The secret life of the Plunkett Mallee

The secret life of the Plunkett Mallee

The Lendlease development at Yarrabilba in Logan is remarkable in many ways. This 2,200 ha project is set to provide homes for around 45,000 people by the project completion date. Despite the project’s size, considerable planning has gone into preserving fauna corridors, greenspace and significant conservation reserves throughout the new city. This includes providing homes for local threatened species including the Near Threatened Plunkett Mallee tree (Eucalyptus curtisii).

The “Back from the Brink” project is the first of its kind to showcase a series of short documentaries dedicated to the stories of South East Queensland’s most threatened wildlife, what is happening to them and how we can work together to save them from extinction. This episode dives into the amazing story of how an army of developers, ecologists, prisoners, teachers, and students are working together to repopulate this species’ previous extent of occupancy right across Yarrabilba. This case study shines a light on just how simple and effective conservation measures go hand-in-hand with sustainable development to create thriving communities for people and planet.
