The Village is located on an 83 hectares site just three kilometres from the heart of Townsville. Upon completion the project will offer 1,200 new dwellings and 13 hectares of parkland. The site is bound to the west by Ross River and the project provide uninterrupted public access to the riverfront. The riverfront parkland will include shared pedestrian and cycle paths, seating and exercise stations.
Significant efforts have been made throughout the development process to protect and enhance the ecological values of the site. Restoration works will be undertaken throughout parkland and riparian areas to increase the cover of native grasses and marine forbs, and remove invasive weed species. Significant trees containing nests of a number of bird species have been incorporated into the open space network for protection. The project also incorporates water sensitive urban design initiatives to protect the water quality of the Ross River. This includes bioretention areas, the use or permeable paving, and draining hardstand areas to garden beds.
The ULDA has made efforts throughout the development process to use resources efficiently, including reusing existing structures on the site, and recycling materials from demolished structures. The ULDA are also ensuring new homes incorporate environmentally responsible materials, such as recycled or reused materials.
