Tannum Blue

DEVELOPER: Economic Development Queensland
CATEGORY: Residential Subdivision
STATE: QLD
CERTIFICATION: Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water, Community

Located 20 kilometres south-east of the Gladstone city centre, Tannum Blue will provide housing diversity to the expanding community of Gladstone, who are currently under pressure due to the escalating resource industry in the region.

The development concept maximises the retention of waterway corridors and surrounding vegetation, creating green spines throughout the development. Seeds have also been collected on site to ensure the development’s vegetation maintains the local plant ‘gene pool’, which are highly adapted to the local environment. These plants will be used wherever practical, with the developer aiming for 90 per cent usage. EDQ has also engaged Ergon Energy to use Tannum Blue as a trial estate for solutions to reduce peak energy demand. Trial elements include the compulsory installation of air conditioning units in living areas to be Demand Enabled Peak Smart type units and the installation of an electrical demand ready circuit connected to an off-peak tariff for a number of electrical appliances.
