DEVELOPER: Peet Limited
CATEGORY: Masterplanned Community
Shorehaven at Alkimos has been master planned by Peet Limited to offer affordable beachside living for more than 3,000 households. The community, launched by Western Australia’s Treasurer in November 2009, is the first to be developed in the new Alkimos-Eglinton area of Perth, some nine kilometres north of Mindarie. As the flagship of Peet Limited’s communities across Australia, Shorehaven will lead both residential development in the Alkimos area and standards in water conservation.
The coastal environment and water conservation are central to Peet’s vision for the 243-hectare community, which is set across three precincts that will be linked by a network of paths and bikeways that lead residents to a future thriving coastal village centre.
All public spaces at Shorehaven have been designed to maximise water efficiency, with a range of drought resistant plants from Perth’s coastal plain to be planted. Storm water will be reused extensively on open spaces and expansive grassed areas will be kept to a minimum. Additionally, homebuyers will receive a “sustainability package”, including a 2,500-litre rainwater tank, a landscaping package with drought-tolerant plant options and low-water irrigation system, as well as a compost bin to encourage sustainable living.
